The Seventh Sunday after the Epiphany
February 20, 2022 — Divine Service Setting Three with Holy Communion
COLLECT OF THE DAY for Epiphany 7
The Lord be with you.
And with Thy spirit.
Let us pray. Almighty God, in Your kindness You cause the light of the Gospel to shine among us. By the working of Your Holy Spirit, help us to share the good news of Your salvation that all who hear it may rejoice in the gift of Your unending love; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.
HOLY GOSPEL Luke 6:27-38
The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the sixth chapter.
Glory be to Thee, O Lord.
“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
“If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.
“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise be to Thee, O Christ.
HYMN OF THE DAY “Where Charity and Love Prevail” 845
Where charity and love prevail
There God is ever found;
Brought here together by Christ’s love
By love are we thus bound.
With grateful joy and holy fear
His charity we learn;
Let us with heart and mind and soul
Now love Him in return.
Forgive we now each other’s faults
As we our faults confess,
And let us love each other well
In Christian holiness.
Let strife among us be unknown;
Let all contention cease;
Be God’s the glory that we seek;
Be ours His holy peace.
Let us recall that in our midst
Dwells Christ, His only Son;
As members of His body joined
We are in Him made one.
For love excludes no race or clan
That names the Savior’s name;
His family embraces all
Whose Father is the same.
